Never, I repeat, NEVER agree to draw things for kids at a BBQ. I just spend the last couple of hours drawing aliens, monsters, fairies and one odd request for a unicorn surfing...It all began when I drew this guy above out of sheer boredom. He's actually a character I've been drawing since I was a kid, although never came up with a name for him that I liked. Anyway, when my cousins saw it, they loved it, and all wanted one of their own. There were 9 kids at the BBQ. The first few were happy with copies of this one, others not so much.
All in all I learned that drawing stuff for kids is fair worse than being stuck face painting for an hour or two, which I have been roped into doing on numerous occasions. Drawing takes longer and kids are more picky as they can actually see what I'm doing. With face painting it's so much easier as their mind's eye always has a better view of what's on their face than any mirror :P
For some reason I can see this second guy being the first one's body guard or big older brother, so I might try to think up some story for them as I'm mad to do some comic work after seeing this from Shane Harrington, a good friend of a good friend and a good artist too.
